OSI Industries is an American food processing business which is privately owned. It is based in Aurora, Illinois, which is a suburb of Chicago. They are a global company that has food processing plants in 17 countries including Asia, North America, and Europe. They earn $6.1 billion in annual revenues as of the fiscal year 2016.
In 2016, OSI Industries expanded its operations in the United Kingdom through an acquisition of a competing company. They bought Flagship Europe which is a big supplier of pies, frozen poultry, sous vide products, sauces, dressings, and mayonnaise. They bought this company from its previous owner, Flagship Food Group. Just prior to this purchase Flagship Europe had also expanded by acquiring another firm, Calder Foods. The company has since been renamed as Creative Foods Europe.
When OSI Industries bought Flagship Europe they added many brands to their portfolio. Beyond Calder Foods they also added Oliver James Foods, Proper Pies, Harvest Farms, Atlantic Sauces & Dressings, House of Lords, Oasis Mayonnaise, and Tabasco. The COO and president of OSI Industries, David McDonald, said that this purchase gave his company a broader European presence. He also said that these brands complimented what his company was already doing in Europe very well.
The other big event that occurred for OSI Industries operations in the UK in 2016 was that the British Safety Council handed out their highest honor to it. This is the Globe of Honour Award. It is given to those companies that demonstrate during a year-long audit that they are dedicated to the highest level of mitigating environmental risks. They have to demonstrate their commitment everywhere from the boardroom to the floor of the food processing plants. They are judged by an independent panel of industry experts.
The Chair of the British Safety Council is Lynda Armstrong. When presenting this award to OSI Industries she said that companies like it were taking an integrated approach where protecting the environment is treated as seriously as health and safety. This makes organizations like OSI Industries sustainable and responsible.
OSI Industries first entered the United Kingdom food industry in 1989. Since that year they have been supplying the restaurant industry in the UK with beef and pork products. This was the third time they have won the Globe of Honour Award, having previously won it in both 2013 and 2015.
