Andrea McWilliams: Lobbyist, Philanthropist, and Conservationist

Nobody knows governmental affairs and the art of lobbying like Andrea McWilliams. A true Austinite, McWilliams was born and raised just steps from the capital building. She is currently the Founder of the McWilliams Governmental Affairs consulting firm along with her husband, Dean. Together they work to get their clients the legislation that they need, and they are very good at it.

Andrea McWilliams started as a Chief of Staff at the very young age of 21. From there she went into the private sector at Public Strategies, Inc, a public relations company. Here she learned the basics of grassroots campaigns and working to get what the client wants, a pre-requisite for any good lobbyist. After her stint in the private sector, she decided to found McWilliams Governmental Affairs Consultants with her husband, and she has been representing clients all over the United States ever since.

As well as being a world-class lobbyist, Andrea McWilliams is also very involved in her community. She is a well-known philanthropist and non-profit board member, working with several different Texas organizations which include HeartGift, the Elizabeth Ann Seton Hospital, Austin Children in Crisis, Pioneer, and Texas Lyceum. She has also been the President of Inherit Austin and a board member of Preservation Austin, organizations that are dedicated to saving the architecture and culture of historic Austin, Texas.

Andrea McWilliams, a breast cancer survivor, is also dedicated to giving to several organizations devoted to curing breast cancer and helping those with the deadly disease, including the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and KillCancer. She was also an honorary chair of the Mamma Jamma Ride for Breast Cancer.

Throughout her career, McWilliams has also won several awards, including the Austin Under 40 Award, being featured in the Austin Business Journal’s Profiles in Power, becoming a “Style Setter” for Austin Fashion Week for her work with non-profits, and being named a Woman of Distinction by the Girl Scouts of Central Texas. Needless to say, Andrea McWilliams is a powerful political force, and she is not going to stop helping her clients or her community any time soon.
