The last few years have seen a rise in the number of cases involving harassment and intimidation committed by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) groups. With only a few Jewish and pro-Israel organizations and individuals standing up to counter this, it has proven to be a mountain tasks that is only getting out of hand. Here and there, a number of incidences have been heard such as at Stanford where a Jewish woman eyeing the student senate seat was harassed for openly sowing support for Israel. At UCLA, a Jew was inhibited from joining the Judicial Board under the accusation that she had dual loyalties.
Even outside campuses, there are large professional groups organized against Israel, which make it very difficult for those defending the rights of those supporting Israel. It is up to the more powerful organizations to reach out to the grassroots level and save the situation. This has taken course in the University of Minnesota where activists under Student Supporting Israel have shown unwavering support for the Jews. Their operations have been successful growing to up to 50 chapters nationwide, thousands of students for followers and hundreds of events. SSI has influenced their bold message, clear vision and leadership for pro-Israel support.
One renowned activist is Adam Milstein, the Israeli-American real estate investor, philanthropist, founder of the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation and a managing partner at Hager Pacific Properties where he is in charge of accounting, financing and disposition. Adam’s childhood saw his mother emigrate from Mexico to Israel and his father from Argentina before he joined the Israeli Defense Forces and pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Economics. It is this connection with Israel that motivates him to defend Jews.
His Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation supports the education of young students to be proud of their Jewish roots that will equip them with knowledge on how to advocate for the Jewish people. He also founded the Israeli-American Council, where he is the National Chairman, a board member at Jewish Funders Network, StandWithUs, Birthright Israel, Hasbara Fellowships and Israel on Campus Coalition.
